Year 9 & 10 Program

The Year 9 & 10 study program, the “Pathways Stage,” focusses more closely on future planning and exploring future career and study options for our students.

Year 9

The Year 9 curriculum continues to follow the Victorian Curriculum with many of the elective subjects leading into both the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the VCE Vocational Major.

Subjects

Subjects taught at Year 9 are a combination of year-long “core” subjects and semester-long “elective” subjects. All students complete the same core subjects whereas they can choose four semester-based subjects. Students must choose one subject from both the Arts and Technology blocks as well as the general elective block. They may also apply to participate in the Advance Program.

Advance Program

A personal development, leadership and community involvement course. This subject, which runs for both semesters in Year 9, aims to develop students’ abilities to operate as part of the community.

It focuses on:

Personal skills including initiative, responsibility and public speaking
The ability to work as part of a group including leadership
Contributing to the community including volunteering

Year 10

The Year 10 curriculum continues to follow the Victorian Curriculum however there is more of an emphasis in preparing students for both the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the VCE Vocational Major

Subjects
Subjects taught at Year 10 are a combination of year-long and semester-long subjects. English is primarily the only core subject. Whilst Humanities and Mathematics are core in semester one, students may select their type of Humanities and Mathematics subject in semester two to meet their educational requirements.

Students choose seven semester based elective subjects. They also have the opportunity to access an early VCE subject.
