Last week we held our annual Year 7 Information Evening for parents and students who are joining us in 2017. This was the first time we have held the meeting in our new Performing Arts Centre and we still did not have enough seats for all of our guests. Nearly 400 people attended the night which was an indication of the level of support our community has for Reservoir High.
When greeting our new students and families outside the Performing Arts Centre, there were many nervous grade 6/year 7 students and I dare say quite a few parents and guardians who were feeling the same. Moving from the secure and well known primary school environment into the unknown secondary world is often a little daunting, creating some anxiety. However, when the official welcome and the meetings with teachers had taken place, we all met for a delicious supper in the library. Lots of smiles, conversations and questions about next year took place and everyone looked far more relaxed as they become part of the Reservoir High community.
The following day, conversations amongst the staff at Reservoir High surrounded the success of the night. On behalf of myself and Ms Lea Volpe (Assistant Principal) I want to particularly thank Mr Darryl Forbes (Junior School Leader and Year 7 Coordinator) for his hard work meeting with students and teachers from our local primary schools which culminates in holding our information evening for new students.
I would also like to thank all of the staff and students at Reservoir High for all they do every week in our classrooms and out in the community which encourages families to consider our school as their school of choice. Tours of our school are normally held every Wednesday. Hundreds of parents and students have toured the school throughout the year, to see what a normal school day at Reservoir High looks like. Our students and staff are now very familiar and used to visitors entering classrooms to see what we do. We are very proud of what we do here and look forward to sharing this with you.
I would like to invite parents and students to tour the school next year to assist you to make the right decision regarding your child’s school in 2018 or for families looking way ahead, 2019 and 2020.
