Chinese Sister School Visit to Reservoir High.
Sunday was the day, the day where we got to meet the students from Tianjing Muzhai Middle School. We all had been waiting for this chance to homestay them and treat them like family and at last the day came. We were all nervous and we had our own worries but as soon as we saw them we knew there was nothing to be worried about. They greeted us, we greeted them and that’s when the life-long bond started.
Each family took their student or students out to dinner and to places, to explore Melbourne and view its wonders. It was truly a great experience for them.
On Monday, the students experienced what school here is like at Reservoir High. They were welcomed at our assembly and they got introduced to some students in C9. For recess, they got given vouchers to buy food and after recess they got to make food. The students from China rather enjoyed the cooking as most of them had never cooked before. Each and everyone one of the students enjoyed themselves and would take photos of what they made. The students were even more excited when they got told that they could have what we made for Lunch. After lunch, we enjoyed a rehearsal of a play that is in the production and then we went down to the gym and taught them how to play Australian Rules football. The sport was so new to them, but they picked it up quite easily.
On Tuesday we went to the zoo. It was a great experience and it was very exciting for the China students to come up close to the animals. They saw some animals unique to Australia and they took many photos.
The bonds created between the China students and the Reservoir High students was priceless. It didn’t feel like we had just met them and even though we couldn’t speak the same language nothing stopped us from communicating as we had apps on our phones to translate. Having them visit us was truly a fantastic experience for everyone.
